Propagation of a few-cycle laser pulses in a dense V-type three-level atomic medium is investigated based on full-wave Maxwell-Bloch equations by taking the near dipole-dipole (NDD) interaction into account. We find that the ratio, \gamma, of the transition dipole moments has strong influence on the time evolution and split of the pulse: when \gamma<=1, the NDD interaction delays propagation and split of the pulse, and this phenomenon is more obvious when the value of \gamma is smaller; when \gamma=2^{1/2}, the NDD interaction accelerates propagation and split of the pulse.

In an open /\ type system with the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC), when the probe and driving fields have different frequencies, the switching of the group velocity of the probe pulse from subluminal to superluminal is realized not only by adjusting values of the relative phase between the probe and driving fields but also by varying values of the incoherent pumping rate. For the subluminal propagation, the system always exhibits the probe absorption, however, the superluminal propagation is always companied with gain of the probe field.

A way resulting in lasing without inversion (LWI) in an open resonant Λ-type system from a nonlinear dynamics viewpoint is investigated. The destabilization of the non-lasing solution can occur not only through pitchfork bifurcation, giving rise to continuous wave LWI, but also through Hopf bifurcation, giving rise to self-pulsing LWI. This is much different from that of the corresponding closed resonant Λ-type system in which the destabilization of the non-lasing solution can occur only through pitchfork bifurcation. The effects of the unsaturated gain coefficient, cavity loss coefficient, atomic injection and exit rates on the two bifurcations are discussed.

It is shown that in an open V-type atomic system without incoherent pumping, the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) can not only lead to lasing with inversion but also lead to lasing without inversion (LWI) including at resonance of the driving and probe fields. This conclusion is much different from that obtained in the corresponding closed V-type system.

A steady analytical solution of an open four-level inversionless lasing system with a driving field having the phase fluctuation has been given, and the effects of the finite width due to the phase fluctuation on the gain, dispersion, and population difference have been analyzed by using the numerical simulation from the steady analytical solution. It is found that: with the linewidth increasing, the gain decreases and the absolute value of population difference between levels coupled by the probe field increases, but the variation of the linewidth cannot change the properties of the inversionless lasing and refractive index increase of the system; when the linewidth does not equal to zero, the system can still get a high refractive index with zero absorption, and these conclusions have very obvious difference from those obtained in other inversionless lasing systems.

Our study shows that for the copropagating probing and driving fields, the gain without inversion doesn't monotonously decrease or increase with the increasement of Doppler width. When the driving field is resonant, at a suitable Doppler width, we can get a maximum value of the gain without inversion, which is much larger than that obtained when Doppler broadening is absent.

本文假设注入环形腔激光器的信号的横向场分布为TEM_(10)模.利用平均场近似方法得到了单横模共振时的定态方程,并进行了线性稳定性分析.结果表明,对优质腔来说,与Lugiato等讨论的注入信号为平面波光束及高斯光束(TEM_(00)模)的情况不同,注入光场横向分布具有TEM_(10)模的横式时,环形激光器的输出呈现双稳性.
